Of the 2855 polio survivors currently living in Australia who have recorded their details on the Australian Polio Register to date, 2350 of them contracted polio in Australia, while the remainder contracted polio in a range of overseas countries.
The charts on this page are derived from entries to date on the Australian Polio Register and display when polio was contracted worldwide. All three charts are updated as new registrations are recorded online. To view the data broken down into individual Australian or overseas locations, choose from the menu options above.
The first two charts display the number of polio cases worldwide per year and per decade.
This final chart again displays the number of polio cases worldwide per year, but this time the chart also reveals the number of polio cases in Australia and overseas for each year (indicated by the differently coloured bar sections).
